I’d Love to Help

I Have Experience With…

Behaviour Analysis

With Behavior Analysis we study the reasons behind why people behave the way that they do. This allows a deeper internal understanding and can help with understanding why certain behaviors should change.

Specific Learning Disorder

Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia are alternate terms to describe Specific Learning Disorders. The DSM-5 defines Specific Learning Disorders as “difficulties learning and using academic skills associated with inaccurate or slow effortful reading, difficulty understanding meaning of what read, difficulties spelling, difficulties with written expression, difficulties mastering number sense, number facts or calculations and difficulties with mathematical reasoning. The affected academic skills are substantially and quantifiably below of similar age. The challenges have begun during school age years” (DSM-5, p.66-67)

ADHD

Dr. Deanna can assess for ADHD. ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can affect learning, social skills and daily function. An individual with ADHD can display inattention, hyperactivity or both (combined type). Individuals with ADHD can have learning disabilities as well.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Dr. Deanna does not currently assess for Autism Spectrum Disorder however, can provide Functional Behavior Assessments for individuals with ASD and can develop Positive Behavior Plans to foster positive behavioral change using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) technology.

Dr. Deanna can assess for Personal Supports Initiative (PSI) sponsored by Community Living BC. PSI supports were developed for individuals with ASD and FASD. To determine if an individual with ASD or FASD is eligible for PSI supports, an Adaptive Function assessment is completed. Background interview(s), file review of previous assessments and school performance records including IEP are also reviewed.

Anxiety

Dr. Deanna can assess for a variety of childhood anxiety disorders including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (excessive worry), and Social Anxiety Disorder (performance fears). The evidence-based treatment for childhood anxiety disorders includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) geared to the developmental age.

Depression

Childhood depression is defined as experiencing a depressed mood or loss of interest and pleasure in activities, weight gain or loss, insomnia or hypersomnia, psychomotor agitation or slowing, fatigues, feelings of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt, diminished ability to think or concentrate, suicidal ideation. Dr. Deanna can assess for childhood depressive disorders. The evidence-based treatment for childhood depression includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) geared to the developmental age. In cases of emergencies, call 911 if someone is in significant distress or trying to hurt themselves or others.

About Me

Deanna Jo Britton-Rumohr was born and raised in Northern Saskatchewan amongst the bounty and beauty of the boreal forest.

Her Eastern European and English family roots also had a great impact during her formative years growing up in the area. Secondary to that was the connection she established with the Cree community of the region which she is still connected to today. Deanna developed an incredible respect and awareness for the people, the land and for the rich waterways she called home. She and her Ukrainian “baba” cared for many domestic, wild and orphaned animals that cultivated her deep sense of caring and empathy for those in vulnerable situations. Always willing to learn, taking care of other beings and developing strong relationships were and still are important to Deanna.

Deanna earned a Bachelors of Education degree in Special Education from the University of Alberta and was a Special Needs educator for 19 years in rural Alberta schools. The skills she honed spanned working with preschool to adults during that time. Deanna completed a graduate certificate in Language Learning just after completing the B. Ed. at the U of A.

She then completed a Masters Degree from the University of Lethbridge in Applied Counselling Psychology, and then a Post-Masters degree in School Psychology from Washington State University. Since then, she has provided psyched assessment services for school district students in both Canada and the USA.

Deanna furthered her education and completed a Doctoral degree at The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in School Psychology which specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training as well as School Neuropsychological assessment. She completed practicums in both domains.

She completed her internship at the Southern Idaho School Psychology Clinic under the supervision of one School Psychologist and two Clinical Psychologists.

Her Post-Doctoral was completed over two years with a registered Clinical Psychologist in BC. Deanna’s knowledge, training and experience has spanned many years and experiences. Deanna is currently a student at the Florida Institute of Technology completing Applied Behavioral Analysis training to become a certified Board Certified Behavioral Analysist (BCBA).
